Supporting nurses in moral distress

Georgina Morley is a bedside essential care registered nurse at Barts Heart Centre in London, as well as a PhD trainee researching moral distress in nursing at the Centre for Ethics in Medication at Bristol College.

Her PhD, funded via a Wellcome Research Award for Health Professionals, involves interviewing crucial care registered nurses from two NHS healthcare facilities to understand their experiences of ethical distress as well as honest concerns they run into while accomplishing professional care.

Research study suggests that ethical distress is related to ‘concern exhaustion’, which can influence the top quality of person care as well as trigger registered nurses to leave their work.
